The Thousand Islands archipelago is a group of islands located in the St. Lawrence River, where it emerges from the northeast corner of Lake Ontario. They mark the border between Canada and the United States.

The islands extend about 80 kilometers downstream from Kingston, Ontario. The Canadian Islands belong to Ontario and the American Islands belong to New York State.

There are 1,865 islands; some are over 100 square kilometers in size, while others are small and home only to migratory seabirds. The number of islands is based on the criteria that each island must be above sea level 365 days a year, have at least two trees or shrubs on the island, and have an area of at least 0.5 square meters.

Scattered through the meanders of the St. Lawrence River, some of the Thousand Islands are dotted with cottages or summer houses, accessible by boat or bridge. Those close to the bank can be on duty by the hotel. The driving of the vehicle is now controlled there.

You can enjoy the visit by taking a boat trip to the Thousand Islands, a lesser known place in Canada.

The best way to visit them is to opt for a cruise of an hour or more. Boats depart from the towns of Rockport, Gananoque, or Kingston. Most of them are tourist boats (about fifty people on board) but you can also take a private boat.

You can also visit the 1000 Island Tower which provides a 130-meter-high view of the Saint Lawrence River and the Thousand Islands archipelago.(Click here for booking)
